Welfare and Poverty
Jill Stein will guarantee affordable housing, and stop all foreclosures and evictions (www.ontheissues.org). Jill wants to create a federal bank with local branches that will take homes with distressed mortgages and either restructure the mortgages to affordable levels, or if occupants cannot afford a mortgage, rent homes to the occupants (www.ontheissues.org). Jill believes people have “the right to accessible and affordable utilities such as heat, electricity, phone, internet, and public transportation--which will be made available to all through democratically run, publicly owned utilities that operate at cost, not for profit.” (www.ontheissues.org)
“In honoring these rights we will create the basis for a new economy--an economy that is stable and not vulnerable to speculation (www.ontheissues.org). In order to end poverty Jill will “guarantee economic human rights, including access to food, water, housing, and utilities, with effective anti-poverty programs to ensure every American a life of dignity.” (www.Jill2016.com) Jill would also like to make health care a right in the U.S.A by establishing an “improved ’Medicare For All’ single-payer public health insurance program to provide everyone with quality healthcare, at huge savings.” (www.Jill2016.com)
